People of Journey Further: Sara Catelli

Behind every great piece of work at Journey Further is a talented person with their own story, perspective and path into marketing.

Our brand new People of Journey Further series shines a light on the people who make our agency what it is

To continue kicking things off, we’re catching up with one of our Marketing Executives, who recently made a big move from Philadelphia to the UK, to talk about starting a career in marketing, and what it’s like to grow your career at Journey Further.

What inspired you to get into a career in marketing?

I’ve always been drawn to storytelling and creative work, and I originally started out on the production side, with video editing and content creation.

Over time, especially in roles at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and NBCUniversal, I became really interested in what happens beyond the content itself: how it reaches people, how it performs, and how it fits into a wider campaign.

That’s what led me into marketing. I realized I didn’t just want to create content, I wanted to understand the strategy behind it and be part of shaping how and why it connects with audiences.

Marketing gives me that balance of creativity and strategy, and the opportunity to tell stories that don’t just exist, but actually resonate and make a measurable impact.

This is one of the first roles in your career. How have you found it so far?

It’s been a really positive experience, but also a learning curve in the best way. It was a big transition moving from Philadelphia to the UK for my first full-time role, and it’s pushed me to adapt quickly, build new connections, and become more confident in a new environment.

Because my role is so varied, I’ve been able to build skills across a lot of areas quite quickly, from content and SEO to events and email marketing. I’ve also had the chance to take on more responsibility earlier than I expected, which has helped build up my confidence.

What can you tell us about your role in the Marketing team?

My day-to-day is pretty varied, which is something I really enjoy. I work across campaigns, events, and comms, coordinating logistics, monitoring activity, looking for opportunities, and protecting the brand voice across touchpoints.

I help make sure things are moving behind the scenes, ensuring different moving parts stay on track while supporting the creative and strategic sides. It’s a mix of creative execution and increasingly looking at how we can improve performance, whether through more seamless processes, better targeting, or refining how we communicate with different audiences.

What did you think of the agency when you first arrived?

I remember it feeling pretty fast-paced from the start, even diving into proofreading content for the website on day one, but it was all in a way that was exciting rather than overwhelming.

It also felt like a place where you could get involved in a lot of different things early on, which was something I was really looking for at the start of my career.

What do you enjoy about the culture of the agency?

It feels like people are genuinely prioritized, not just in what’s said, but in how the teams work day-to-day.

There’s a good balance between working hard and actually enjoying being part of the team, like volunteering days, socials, and just having a really approachable and comfortable environment.

I’ve also found that if you’re proactive and want to get involved, there are always opportunities, whether that’s supporting other projects, events, or internal initiatives.

What would you say to someone considering becoming an Executive at Journey Further?

I’d say it’s a great place to start your career if you want to learn quickly and get hands-on experience. You’re not limited to one area. You get exposure to a wide range of work, which helps you figure out what you’re interested in and where you want to specialize. And if you’re proactive, there’s a real opportunity to take on responsibility early and grow into it.
