Across the UK, millions of households rely on Domestic & General (D&G) without knowing it. D&G is the UK’s leading provider of protection plans for kitchen appliances, boilers, and consumer electronics, partnering with multiple major retailers to protect, repair and care for millions of products each year.

Since partnering with D&G in 2022, Journey Further’s primary objective has been to address and scale brand awareness, as despite powering repair and insurance services for major, high-profile brands such as John Lewis, Argos and AO.com, brand awareness was relatively low.

Our work initially spanned digital PR, SEO and onsite content: securing coverage in major publications, ensuring the site was set up for organic visibility, and developing the right messaging across key commercial and informational topics. Together, this work helped build D&G’s organic visibility to a record high.

As audience search behaviour and content consumption changed, our strategy evolved too

In 2025, we expanded the programme to include user-generated and short-form video content, helping D&G reach people across a broader mix of search and social platforms.

The broader strategy was designed to increase D&G’s visibility wherever its audiences search for information, while helping more people understand the brand, its services and the value it provides. This meant building awareness across search, social platforms and major publications, as well as ensuring D&G appeared at key stages of the customer journey.

To achieve these goals, the programme needed to:

  • Make D&G more discoverable across the channels its audiences use, from Google and major publications to TikTok and YouTube.
  • Clearly communicate what D&G does and how its services can help customers protect, maintain and repair their household appliances.
  • Create useful, authoritative content that could earn strong organic rankings and visibility within evolving search features, including AI Overviews.

Proving the value of video for D&G

Before expanding into short-form content, we had already demonstrated how video could increase D&G’s visibility and provide practical value for its audience. We produced and optimised a series of long-form videos for the brand’s YouTube channel, showing viewers how to resolve common household appliance issues.

Each video was informed by search demand and designed to be discoverable through both YouTube search and Google’s organic results.

Together, the videos have generated more than 900,000 views, demonstrating the appetite for useful, search-led video content and providing a strong foundation for the next stage of D&G’s social and video strategy.

Broadening the strategy into short-form video

Building on the success of D&G’s long-form YouTube content, we expanded the video strategy in 2025 to reach audiences across a broader range of search and social platforms.

Insight showed that searches for practical “how-to” advice were increasingly taking place on visual platforms such as TikTok and YouTube Shorts. To respond to this shift, we developed short-form user-generated content that felt native to each platform while retaining the clear, helpful tone associated with D&G.

Journey Further delivered 24 pieces of short-form campaign content, providing an end-to-end service spanning audience and search behaviour analysis, strategy, topic development, creator selection and briefing, and final content delivery. D&G then managed publication across its own channels.

Topics were selected by analysing the questions and problems people were actively searching for across Google, TikTok and YouTube, alongside platform trends, seasonal demand and opportunities where D&G could provide credible, practical guidance.

Each video addressed a clear user need: helping people care for their household appliances, resolve common problems and potentially avoid unnecessary repair costs. Content was then timed around relevant peaks in demand to maximise discovery when audiences were most likely to need it.

The results

The campaign achieved significant success, particularly in its primary objective of increasing reach and building brand awareness, as well as supplementing the brand’s discovery and visibility in organic search.

The results speak for themselves:

  • Visible in the top five results in TikTok/YouTube search for 20 target keywords, including ‘how to defrost freezer’ (est. 5,200 monthly TikTok searches) and ‘radiator not heating up’ (est. 5,100 monthly YouTube searches)
  • Cited in 55 Google AI Overviews across D&G’s key UK and US markets.
  • The top-performing video,  ‘How to add dishwasher salt (and why you need it)’ on TikTok, has generated over 200,000 organic views to date
  • Best-performing videos are gaining a high proportion of their views from search – this example gets 70% of its views from Google & YouTube search results.

The short-form strategy has generated more than 550,000 organic views and counting. Combined with the long-form YouTube videos produced by Journey Further, D&G’s video content has now been viewed nearly 1.5 million times, extending its reach far beyond its audience of approximately 2,000 followers.

Domestic & General is no longer just powering the brands people trust, it’s becoming one.
